Our Greatest
Treasure
Matthew 13:44 –
The King James Version
The
kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; which when
a man has found he highdeth it, And for joy thereof he goeth and selleth
all that he had, and buys that field.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly
pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold
all that he had and bought it..
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the
sea, and gathered of every kind [of fish.] Which, when it was full,
they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but
cast the bad away..
So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and
sever the wicked from amongst the just. And shall cast them into
the furnace of fire; there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Jesus
saith unto them, “Have ye understood all these things?” They say
unto him, “Yea, Lord.” Then said he unto them, “Therefore
every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto
a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure
things new and old.”
Perhaps you find the 14th Century
English a little cryptic. Lets try a newer version.
The New Life Version
“The
holy nation of heaven is like a box of riches buried in a field.
A man found it and then hid it again. In his joy he goes and sells
all that he has and buys that field.
Again, the holy nation of having is like a man who buys and cells.
He is looking for good pearls. When he finds one good pearl worth
much money, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.
The holy nation of heaven is like a big net which was let down into the
sea. When it was full, they took it to the shore. They sat
down and put the good fish into pails. They threw the bad fish away.
It will be like this in the end of the world. Angels will come and
take the sinful people from among those who are right with God.
They will put the sinful people into the stove of fire where there will
be allowed crying and grinding of teeth."
Jesus then asked the
multitudes, “Have you understood the all these
parables?” They said, “Yes Lord.” He said to them,
“Every teacher of the law who has become a follower of the holy nation
of heaven is like a man who owns his house and he takes new and old riches
from his house.”
The
deciples often asked Jesus to explain the parables to them and always He
responded, “Let him who has Ears to hear, listen.”
Thus, it would seem that the mystery of the parables is that in the millennia
to follow, each parable might take on new and important meanings in addition
to their obvious meanings. The parables, I believe, take on a very
important meaning today. The parable "Of The Fig Tree" indicates that it
is very possible the 55th year starting with the return of the Jews to
Israel, in 1948, marked the beginning of the “End Times.” Thus we may well
be in the last generation before the tribulation.
If we are,
indeed, in the end of times, are you ready? Have you,
|
Made the decision to follow Christ and told Him so in prayer?
Truly repented of the sins you have done and the hurt you have done others.
(This is not for fear of punishment but because the hurt you have
done God and your other fellow beings hurts you and you don't want to ever
do it again.)
Announced publicly that you have done this? (This does not mean a public
confession of sins and harm.)
Then did you ask Him to send the Holy Spirit to you? And having done
this,
Have you experienced the Holy Spirit's baptism? And finely,
Have you asked the Holy Spirit to reside within you? |
If so, you
and all others will have noted a remarkable change in you. If you
have not yet done this, please do it here and now. However, if you
are not yet ready, please read the first five books of the New Testiment
and then reconsider the decision. Your eternal soul depends upon
it. |
